INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

VCBH is honored to be an awardee of The Mentored Internship Program grant - a component of the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Behavioral Health Workforce Development (BHWD) efforts. The “MIP’s overarching goal is to enhance the professional development of diverse talent to help meet California’s urgent need for BH workforce in the near-term, ... expand California’s future BH workforce, ... and develop ongoing partnerships ... between BH organizations and local educational institutions.”

The 2022-2023 Academic Year will be focused on improving the Internship Program structure to establish standardized clinical experiences and strengthen a mentorship supervision model through the MIP grant process. VCBH will be working closely with Advocates for Human Potential, Inc (AHP), the grant Administrative Entity on behalf of DHCS, and our endorsing educational partners to create structures which will support future capacity.

Ventura County Community College District: Oxnard College; California Lutheran University; California State University, Northridge; California State University, Channel Islands; and Antioch University, Santa Barbara.

MIP planning will begin April 1, 2022. Students attending the endorsing schools and planning to be registered in a field experience course may request an application by email at VCBH.Internships@ventura.org.

Application processing and interviews will be held in April and May 2022.

DOCTORAL PRACTICUM

Doctoral-level practicum opportunities for students enrolled in the graduate PsyD program at California Lutheran University.

 

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK INTERNSHIP

Opportunities for MSW graduate students enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at California State University, Northridge.

 

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY OR PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL COUNSELING TRAINEESHIP
Opportunities for MA graduate students enrolled in the Clinical/Counseling Psychology Program at California Lutheran University or Antioch University, Santa Barbara.

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATE INTERNSHIP and NEW: COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATOR INTERNSHIP

These internship opportunities are available for undergraduate students at the Junior or Senior level, majoring in Psychology, Sociology or other behavioral health field, attending California State University, Channel Islands.

Students receive experience and training in public behavioral health services, comprehensive case management and outreach experiences, excellent supervision and supplemental seminars and workshops.

A two-semester 16 hours/week commitment is required.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WORKER PRACTICUM

The practicum program is available to students enrolled in the Addictive Disorders Studies Program at Ventura County Community College District: Oxnard College. Students must have completed the minimum pre-requisite courses. The practicum provides comprehensive integrated experiences, excellent supervision and supplemental seminars and workshops. Students are oriented to the County Behavioral Health System, observe services in the Substance Use Services programs, and strengthen case management and documentation skills while placed in an outpatient mental health program.

A two-semester 16 hours/week commitment is required.

The focus and priority will remain on providing internship opportunities for students who attend local educational institutions and who are interested in pursuing careers in the field of public behavioral health.
